Today's orthodontics offer more
to a greater number of people.
Millions of Americans are currently wearing braces. Millions more have completed
orthodontic treatment. And still more are considering braces. In fact, the American
Academy of Orthodontists (AAO) estimates that up to 75 percent of all people could
benefit from orthodontic treatment.
The growing popularity of orthodontics stems from a greater public awareness of what
braces can do for looks and function. It's supported by treatment advances that help
today's orthodontists deliver on those benefits.
In past generations orthodontic treatment was often reserved for children with the most
noticeable problems. Today we understand the importance of anticipating and seeking help
for problems at all levels of severity. In fact, the AAO recommends that all children have
an orthodontic screening no later than age seven.
At the same time, there's an increasingly awareness of the benefits braces can offer adults.
The AAO estimates that one million adults in the U.S. and Canada are currently receiving
orthodontic treatment. That's one in five orthodontic patients.
Those figures speak to the confidence patients have in today's orthodontics - confidence
earned by the many advances in orthodontics since its early days. To see how far orthodontics
